- Candy sales in the USA are highest during Halloween season. In fact, Halloween accounts for one quarter of all annual candy sales.
- The origins of Halloween can be traced to ancient Celtic history. The Celts celebrated the dawning of their new year on November 1st. The Samhain Festival held on October 31st marked the end of summer and the beginning of winter. The Celts believed that the veil between the living and the dead was blurred on Halloween, thus allowing ghosts of the deceased to return to earth.
- The most popular costume of all time is the WITCH. At least 5 million people select this theme each year!
- Americans are projected to spend $9 billion on costumes, candy, and decorations this year. Halloween is second only to Christmas in revenue.
- The tradition of Halloween costumes originated in both European and Celtic history. On Halloween night, ghosts were believed to roam the landscape. People were afraid to leave their homes because they believed the ghosts would recognize them as humans, so they began wearing masks to fool the spirits.
- The Celtics believed that leaving food for the ghosts on their doorstep would prevent them from entering their home.
- This Halloween will mark the first FULL MOON in 19 years…
