Vacation or weekend road-trips are more memorable when you throw in a little haunted history and a ghostly encounter. My getaways are centered around ghost adventures, and I’ve had the pleasure of visiting many haunted sites over the years. But if you’re looking for a Halloween getaway at a haunted hotel in the south, here’s a short list of 5 places (plus a BONUS!) where you’ll find a load of intriguing history and if you’re lucky…an introduction to their ghosts!

  1. The Malaga Inn, Mobile, Alabama

This magnificent HAUNTED hotel is located in the downtown historic district. It was originally built as twin townhouses in 1862 by two brothers-in-law, but changed owners over the past 150+ years. After being restored with renovations that included additional guestrooms, the hotel now offers travelers a unique experience at this boutique hotel.

The hotel has been famed as one of Alabama’s Most Haunted. Swaying chandeliers and moving furniture have been reported here and the ghost of a woman has been seen pacing the outside veranda of Room 007.

Another intriguing element in this inn’s history is the Civil War-era tunnels that were found connecting the two buildings. It’s believed that the tunnels were used as a Confederate hideout during the war.
